Conservator of Objects National Gallery of Victoria Full time, 12 months fixed term contract The National Gallery of Victoria is seeking suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Conservator of Objects. Specialization in the conservation of metals and/or a particular interest in the conservation of contemporary art would be very highly regarded (but not essential). This position will play an important role within the NGV's Objects conservation team. The appointed candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of artwork materials from the various collections, including (but not limited to) archaeological metals and large outdoor sculpture. We would welcome applications from conservators with experience or willing to specialize in three-dimensional contemporary art The position is based in the Conservation Department's recently refurbished facilities at NGV: International, located on St Kilda Rd, Melbourne. Applicants must have a tertiary qualification from a recognised art conservation training programme or equivalent, including experience in the examination and treatment of high value works of art. Well developed practical skills are essential, as is the ability to carry out complex treatments with limited supervision. A broad knowledge of materials and methods used in the construction of works of art is required. Well-developed interpersonal, communication and organisational skills are essential.
