The NTS is Scotland's leading conservation charity. Managing an
extensive portfolio of built heritage sites, from castles and
country houses to cottages and modern museum facilities, the
Trust today cares for one of the largest, most varied and
important collections of material culture in Scotland. The
Edinburgh and East Group covers properties in Angus, Fife,
    Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Our conservators are key players in linking the Trust's
Conservation Principles with its operations at property level.
As ambassadors for best practice in Collections Conservation,
NTS Conservators inspire and motivate property staff and
volunteers to understand and appreciate the ethos of Collections
Conservation and Care, and help equip them to deliver it, as
well as ultimately enhance visitor understanding and enjoyment
of the Trust's interiors and collections. The Collections
Conservation Service also brings invaluable expertise to
multi-disciplinary project teams where Collections Conservation
may be an overt objective, or where the impact may be less
direct. More widely, the Trust ensures its approach to the
conservation and care of its collections is in line with current
thinking and practice through the Conservators' professional
    standards and networks.

You will have a recognised qualification in remedial or
preventive conservation, and experience in preferably both
museum and historic interior environments, as well as experience
of project planning and delivery. You must be an enthusiastic
and energetic self-starter with outstanding inter-personal and
organisational skills and an ability to co-ordinate multiple
priorities. You will also need to have sound IT skills; the
possession of a driving licence is preferable.

The NTS supports PACR and the successful candidate should either
be an accredited Conservator or be working towards accredited
    status.

Project Conservator - Robert Burns Birthplace Museum
Based in Alloway, Ayrshire
Fixed Term Contract - 18 Months

UKP24,314 p.a.

NTS is Scotland's leading conservation charity. Managing an
extensive portfolio of built heritage sites, from castles and
country houses to cottages and modern museum facilities, the
Trust today cares for one of the largest, most varied and
important collections of material culture in Scotland.

The Trust is leading the redevelopment of Burns National
Heritage Park to improve the care and conservation of the
world's most important museum collection relating to Burns, and
to make the poet's birthplace a source of inspiration for every
visitor. The new Robert Burns Birthplace Museum--being built as
part of the project to house the collection--is scheduled to
open to the public in 2010.

The Trust seeks to appoint a Project Conservator to lead on the
delivery of the decant, storage and installation of the Robert
Burns Birthplace Museum Collection in accordance with NTS
Conservation Principles and to act as the primary contact and
support for collections conservation aspects for the wider
    project team.
