Subject: Survey on current trends in leather treatments
The following survey is part of a research project investigating the current trends in leather conservation and treatment as practiced libraries, archives, museums, historical societies, private collections and the retail trade. Participants, regardless of their background or training, are encouraged to participate in an anonymous, online survey, available through Friday October 3, 2008, at: <URL:https://illinois.edu/survey/Secure?id=4572333> Participation in this study entails completion of an online questionnaire which should take approximately 10-20 minutes to compete. There are no risks to participating in this study beyond the discomfort you might experience in everyday life. Individual participants in this research will not directly benefit from participation. However, findings from the research will help to illuminate current treatment methodologies in leather conservation treatment, which will benefit the conservation community at large through their broader dissemination. This research will be collated and produced into a short research article for publication in a journal article and will also be used to help shape an upcoming chapter on the conservation of leather in the Book Conservation Catalog. Completion of the survey indicates your willingness to participate and that you are at least eighteen years of age. You may print out a copy of this consent form for your records. If you have any questions about your rights as a participant in this study, please contact the University of Illinois Institutional Review Board at 217-333-2670 (collect calls accepted if you identify yourself as a research participant) or via email at irb<-a t->uiuc< . >edu.
