Subject: Request for proposals--Historical Archive Restoration Project (HARP)
The following is posted on behalf of John McDonough <john.mcdonough<-at->oireachtas<.>ie> , Head of Collections in the Oireachtas Library and Research Service. Over the past few months we have been preparing to initiate a comprehensive collections project (called HARP - Historical Archives Restoration Project) to start in 2009. Preliminary work was undertaken in November 2008 by specialised consultants to assess the collections and draft a Preservation, Appraisal and Cataloguing Report. Phase 1, (known as HARP-C) is concerned with cleaning, cataloguing and conserving the collections. Phase 2 of the project (known as HARP-D) is tasked with the digitisation of select elements from the collections for preservation and accessibility reasons. Whilst the two phases are distinct projects subject to separate tender bids and requiring contractors with different skills and expertise, the approach to implementing Phase 1 methodology will include identification and preparation of digitisation candidates within the collections. I am sending you notice that the RFT for HARP-C has been published on the eTenders website and may be accessed at <URL:http://www.etenders.gov.ie/ Search/Show/Search_View.aspx?id=DEC110807> Please note that completed tenders must be returned by Jan 29, 2009 and the Office will facilitate site visits in early January 2009 to assist in accurately scoping a response to this call. As detailed in the RFT, specific queries may be addressed to myself and answers will be circulated to all parties who complete the expression of interest on the eTenders website.
