Subject: Users' Group for Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography (MaSC)
MaSC is pleased to announce the 4th MaSC Workshop and Meeting to be held at the National Gallery and British Museum, London from 31 March - 3rd April 2009 The Users' Group for Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography (MaSC) was established in 2003 as a forum for interaction and discussion among scientists using chromatographic and mass spectrometric applications in conservation and preservation studies. Exchange of information and ideas is encouraged by the organisation of regular discussion meetings, with associated workshops on chromatography and mass spectrometry methods. One of the primary aims of MaSC is to compile and distribute a database of mass spectra relevant to the study of artistic and cultural objects. For further information please see <URL:http://www.mascgroup.org> MaSC Meeting British Museum, London 2-3 April 2009 The two day MaSC meeting will comprise presentations on a variety of chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques, and their application to the study of art and cultural artefacts. Contributions on a broad range of relevant topics are now invited. The deadline for submission of abstracts has been extended to 16 February 2009. One session of the meeting will be devoted to topics linked to the theme of the 4th MaSC workshop (data processing and analysis, spectral deconvolution and interpretation and the application of chemometric methods). We hope to create an informal atmosphere for the exchange of ideas, and so short presentations and discussions of work in progress are welcomed. For further details see <URL:http://www.mascgroup.org/meetings.html>. Those interested in presenting a paper or poster should contact Catherine Higgitt or David Peggie at masc2009<-at->mascgroup<.>org or complete the registration form at <URL:http://www.mascgroup.org/MaSC-Registration-2009.doc> Registration fees for the meeting have not yet been confirmed but should be no more than UKP130 (or UKP70 for students); details will be announced and posted on <URL:http://www.mascgroup.org> as soon as they are finalised (and will be sent by email to those who register interest in the meeting). MaSC Workshop National Gallery, London 31 March - 1 April 2009 The workshop will focus on GC-MS data processing and analysis, including mass spectral deconvolution, extraction and interpretation and the application of chemometric methods. The workshop will consist of a mixture of lectures/theoretical sessions and practical, hands-on computer sessions during which participants can work with their own data. Speakers for the workshop include: Professor Tony Mallet King's College, London/University of Greenwich Fundamentals of mass spectrometry Dr Gary Mallard Co-author of the AMDIS software, formerly of NIST and currently Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, The Hague mass spectral interpretation, searching and using the NIST database and spectral deconvolution using AMDIS software Dr Francesca Modugno University of Pisa Applications of Chemometrics, cluster analysis and principal component analysis (PCA) The workshop will also include a session on the MaSC mass spectral database, during which participants will have an opportunity to contribute their own data. For further details see <URL:http://www.mascgroup.org/meetings.html>. The workshop will be limited to 30 participants. Those wishing to attend the workshop are requested to submit a short paragraph describing how they would benefit from the workshop, which should be included in the registration form (available at <URL:http://www.mascgroup.org/MaSC-Registration-2009.doc>). All workshop participants will also be asked to submit ten mass spectra, either before or during the workshop. Registration fees for the workshop have not yet been confirmed but should be no more than UKP200; details will be announced and posted on the MaSC website <URL:http://www.mascgroup.org> as soon as they are finalised (and will be sent by email to those who register interest in the workshop). *** Conservation DistList Instance 22:39 Distributed: Saturday, January 17, 2009 Message Id: cdl-22-39-010 ***Received on Monday, 12 January, 2009
