The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, is hosting an open day on Saturday 7
March 2009, to showcase current research and practice in
ethnobotany. There will be about 20 displays with topics including
wild foods, medicines and basket making. But perhaps of greatest
relevance to readers of this list, we are putting on a large display
of mainly 19th century ethnographic textiles and fibres drawn from
Kew's Economic Botany Collection, some of which were conserved by
students from the Textile Conservation Centre in Winchester, UK, who
will be on hand to answer questions. It's a great opportunity to see
some striking pieces and talk to those involved in their care.

The event is suitable for all ages, families welcome.

The event runs 11am - 4pm and entry is *free*, so long as an
e-ticket is pre-booked by emailing education<-at->therai<.>org<.>uk.

Kew Gardens is in southwest London, UK, easily accessible by road
and public transport.
