Conservators Antarctic Heritage Trust The Trust is now calling for applications for the following positions to work in both Antarctica and Christchurch, New Zealand: Summer Conservators (1 Lead Conservator, 1 Conservator) 2009/10. (6 month fixed term agreement: Aug 2009 to Feb 2010 in Antarctica) Conservators NZ and Antarctica (1 Lead Conservator, 1 Conservator) 2009/10. (12 month fixed term agreement: Aug 2009 to Feb 2010 in Christchurch, New Zealand and Feb 2010 to Aug 2010 in Antarctica) Winter Conservator (2 Conservators) 2010. (6 month fixed term agreement: Feb 2010 to Aug 2010 in Antarctica) Due to Antarctic logistics and operations please note deployment dates may be subject to change. The Antarctic Heritage Trust is a New Zealand based charity recognised internationally as the organisation which cares for the expedition bases associated with the famed polar explorers Captain Robert Falcon Scott, Sir Ernest Shackleton and Carsten Borchgrevink. Built between 1899 and 1911, the four wooden bases are located in the Ross Sea region of Antarctica. These sites are listed on the World Monuments Fund list of 100 Most Endangered Sites on Earth and are protected under the Antarctic Treaty System. The expedition bases contain an estimated 15,000+ artefacts consisting of objects made from a range of materials including timber, leather, paper, glass and metal. During the summer months (approximately Aug to Feb) conservation work is carried out both onsite at the expedition bases and at Scott Base (New Zealand's science facility). During the winter months (approximately Feb to Aug) conservation work is carried out at Scott Base. In 2008 the project was extended to include conservation work in Christchurch, New Zealand. Note: medical and psychometric testing will be required by successful candidates. A salary, together with travel to and from Antarctica will be paid by the Trust. Successful applicants will be employed by the Trust on a Fixed Term Agreement. Applications for the positions are open from Monday 9 March 2009 and close on Friday 10 April 2009.
