The Dutch National Museum of Ethnology (Museum Volkenkunde)
<URL:http://www.volkenkunde.nl> has a vacancy for a period of eight
months, to be filled immediately, for an Objects / Mixed Materials
Conservator.

This is a part-time position for 32 hours per week in the
Conservation and Restoration department, within the division of
Collections Management. The position-holder will work within an
existing team of three staff conservators on the daily tasks of the
department, which include:

Conservation of objects, carrying out condition surveys, assisting
in the preparation of exhibitions and loans, maintenance of
exhibitions and the integrated pest management program, database
information entry and maintenance, and other conservation-related
tasks as required.

Requirements: We are looking for a motivated and versatile
conservator who is able to work independently on assigned tasks.

The successful applicant will have a relevant degree and one to two
years working experience in conservation and museums.

Essential:

    Knowledge of conservation treatments and materials relevant to
    ethnographic or mixed material collections

    Knowledge of preventive conservation and integrated pest
    management methodologies.

    Fluency in spoken and written English.

    Documentation writing skills / experience in working with common
    computer applications (such as Word, Excel and databases)

    Excellent communication and teamworking skills

    Good attention to detail

    Citizen of the European Union or having the necessary permission
    to work in the Netherlands.

Preferred:

    Ability to speak, read and write Dutch

What we offer: A part-time contract (32 hours per week) for eight
months.

Terms of employment: Salary and benefits are according to the CAO
Verzelfstandigde Rijksmusea (collective agreement on working
conditions for employees of National Museums). Salary shall be set
according to age and experience.  (As an indication, for a 36 hour
week (fulltime) the salary would be between 2414 and 3159 euro per
month, before tax and deductions.)
