Project Specialist Education Department Getty Conservation Institute The Getty Conservation Institute's Education Department is seeking a Project Specialist. Reporting to the Head of Education, the Project Specialist (Collections) will be involved in designing and implementing education and training projects to address the learning and information needs of professionals working with museum objects and collections. Job responsibilities will likely include assisting in the development of the GCI's expanding Science Workshop Series. As part of his/her duties, the Project Specialist (Collections) will provide expertise on conservation education issues as needed within the GCI, particularly for Science and Field Projects staff. He/she must have the ability to work with a broad range of conservation professionals, as well as other heritage professionals, and be comfortable in an international environment. Special emphasis will be placed on addressing the needs of professionals in areas of the world with limited access to training opportunities. He/she will also conduct research as required for projects; write, publish and present work at professional venues, and have budgetary responsibility for multi-year projects. Experience: The candidate should have an academic degree in conservation, with a good understanding of the scientific aspects of the field. In addition the project specialist should have 5 years practical work experience. Although the Project Specialist's background can include experience in any conservation specialty, he/she should be able to manage projects in areas of conservation outside his/her main specialty, working as part of a larger project team of GCI colleagues and external consultants. Experience should also include a broad understanding of the management of museum environments and an awareness of current issues relating to the sustainability of environments within museums. Skill in working with a multi-disciplinary teams and consultants in a range of different working contexts both nationally and internationally is essential. Experience in teaching and/or designing education projects would be an advantage. The Project Specialist (Collections) must be flexible, analytical, a good problem-solver, and a creative thinker. Good oral and written communication skills necessary. Reading, writing, speaking ability in at least one foreign language, such as French, Spanish or Arabic, is preferred.
