Conservator (photography) Smithsonian American Art Museum Temporary: Full-time or Part-time The Smithsonian American Art Museum is seeking a temporary photo conservator to work in the conservation department for a period of less than one year. Appointment length and schedule may vary; funding is available for a grade 11 position with benefits. The main focus of the position will be the examination and preparation of a collection of Irving Penn photographs for exhibition. This will include the conservation treatment of selected photographs. The conservator will also examine and treat other photographs in the collection. The photo conservator may assist with some paper conservation projects in the conservation lab as work load and deadlines necessitate. The conservator will participate in all departmental activities including documentation, analysis and treatment for the photographic collection. The conservator will be asked to provide general conservation advice, assistance and training to the museum staff and occasionally the public, on the handling, storage, loan, exhibition, analysis and preservation of the museum's photographic collections. The conservator will help develop guidelines for storage and display.
