Correction

In the February issue there was a notice in the Supplies section about polypropylene enclosures from Kleer-Vu Industries, for use with photographic materials. A minimum order of $50 was quoted; however, this is no longer true. The Kleer-Vu products can be ordered in any amount.

Back Issues

Now available: Vol. 1 #5 and 10, previously out of print. With these issues begins the Newsletter's policy of retyping back issues that have no usable master left, calling them the second edition, and sometimes adding follow-up information for stories in the issue.

Recently, while straightening out the files of back issues, I realized that the indexes to Vol. 2 and 4 were not in the file. This means that people who ordered back issues did not get those indexes. Every volume is indexed and all the indexes are free. If you do not have all the indexes you should have, please write for the missing ones and they will be sent promptly.

Coming Up

"A Form for Recording Early Manuscript Bindings," by Jane Greenfield. 15-item bibliography.

"Board of Experts Recommends Environmental Criteria." A recent report published by the National Bureau of Standards gives state-of-the-art criteria for temperature, relative humidity and pollution levels for the storage of paper-based records in the National Archives.

Future single-topic supplements will treat information retrieval (classifications and subject lists) and computers in hook and paper conservation. Readers who have information to contribute on these two topics should send it to the Newsletter office. It does not have to be in the form of an article or anything in particular if it is on computers and word processors, but it would be nice to receive a complete copy of each classification scheme or word list, even if it is long.

Do not feel guilty about photocopying pages from the Abbey Newsletter. It is good to spread the information. But do not photocopy in quantity (say for a classful of students) without permission, please, because there may be some important corrections to make first.

The Abbey Newsletter: Bookbinding and Conservation is issued six times a year and has about 700 paid subscribers. New subscribers automatically receive all issues published in the current year, unless they request otherwise. All subscriptions expire on the last day of the year.
