Photocopying guidelines. Please send your ideas for what should be in the guidelines for preservation photocopying to Anne Swartzell, Conservation Department, University of California, 416 Library, Berkeley, CA 94720 (415/642-2392).

Paper history artifacts. To mark the 300th anniversary of papermaking in the United States, the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington, DC, is planning an exhibition which will open in December 1990 and will run through November 1991. Paper manufacturers and suppliers are encouraged to assist in this effort, and curator Helena Wright of the Museum's Division of Graphic Arts is looking for the following kinds of historical materials:

• American-made hand paper moulds
• models of American paper machinery, made for patent registration or demonstration purposes or to be shown at trade fairs or expositions like the 1933 Century of Progress or 1939 World's Fair, or earlier expositions
• old or unusual objects made of American paper
• photographs or film footage of papermaking or paper-machinery making
• paintings, prints, and drawings of paper mills or processes.

The focus of the exhibition is American papermaking from 1690 to 1990, and Ms. Wright will be glad to hear from anyone with material that may be suitable for consideration. Her telephone number is 202/357-2877.
