The New-York Historical Society is seeking an experienced, full-time Senior Book Conservator to implement a conservation program and manage its new, well-appointed Book Conservation Laboratory.
Qualifications: Knowledge of conservation ethics, practices and techniques Employed with library materials as evidenced by advanced study in conservation or verifiable certification of advanced training. Knowledge of historical bindings and demonstrated ability to perform advanced conservation techniques. Good written and oral communication is required, as are effective interpersonal and organizational skills and an ability to supervise staff. MS desirable but not required.
Duties: Under the general direction of the Associate Librarian for Preservation, is responsible for the daily operation of the Book Conservation Laboratory. Performs and documents conservation treatments on rare and special materials, plans and supervises a phased treatment program, organizes and oversees efficient operation of routine book repair operations. Trains and evaluates the skills of conservation laboratory technical staff and establishes and monitors production rates and quality of work. Prepares short and long range conservation goals, budgets, monthly and yearly reports. Advises staff on collections condition and recommended treatment. Provides condition reports on materials to be exhibited or loaned and supervises treatment and installation. Establishes and monitors conservation related standards, policies and procedures.

PRESERVATION PROJECT LIBRARIAN
University of Chicago Library
The University of Chicago Library is seeking candidates for the position of Preservation Project Librarian, responsible for managing the operations of the Library's primarily grant funded Preservation Microfilming Program. This position will manage all phases of the review and selection process for brittle items identified for microfilming, oversee materials preparation activities, and coordinate microfilming services from the Photoduplication Laboratory and other vendors.
Responsibilities: Assists with the development of overall program policies, guidelines, procedures, and workflow design; coordinates program implementation. Supervises staff of 4-5 FTE assigned to the bibliographic searching, physical preparation, and targeting of materials for microfilming, and quality inspection of completed microfilm. Monitors and coordinates workflow and productivity. Prepares budget, statistical and other reports., Assists the Preservation Librarian as needed; represents the preservation program; contributes to staff and user education programs; implements the Library's long-range plan; and prepares and implements grants, projects, and other activities.
Qualifications: MLS degree; formal preservation training or equivalent experience in preservation; demonstrated relevant professional accomplishments; aptitude for analytical work; strong conceptual skills; good organization, effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively. Experience in managing preservation activities in a research library; administering grants and budget management. Knowledge of preservation microfilming and replacement activities preferred.

ASSOCIATE HEAD, PHOTO LABORATORY
New York Public Library
Position exists in our Conservation Division/Goldsmith-Perry Microfilming Laboratory for an individual to manage unit operation, including work flow, staff assignments, and general day-to-day activities. Gather and report production statistics, create written reports, maintain stock and supplies, and monitor budgeted expenditures. You will also represent the Laboratory in internal meeting/discussion groups.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, Graphic Arts, or Photography; MM degree or equivalent experience. A familiarity with all aspects of microfilming essential, as well as a background in library research. Familiarity with computer operations and software preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills expected.
