Eleanor Quandt retired from the Library of Congress, where she had been Assistant to the Conservation Officer for 17 years.
Dr. Margarita Blank, formerly of Leningrad, USSR, has begun a special project in the Library of the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York. With a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the Forest Technical Academy in Leningrad, she had been a senior research fellow in the M. E. Saltykov-Shchedrin State Public Library in that city. At the Seminary she will conduct a conservation survey of the manuscript and flat material collection. She will also join the faculty of the Conservation Education Program of the School of Library Service at Columbia University, concentrating on chemical problems in library and archives conservation.
Sidney Huttner was asked by the FBI in March to help investigate an apparent massive theft of library materials, after 28,000-30,000 books and manuscripts were discovered in an Iowa house. The story is in Issue #22 of the RLG News, Spring 1990.
Irene Brueckle of West Germany begins a Getty Senior Fellowship at Buffalo State College in August 1990, doing research on the light bleaching of paper.
Cheryl A. Shackelton, formerly preservation administrator at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, has accepted the position of Mellon Preservation Intern in the Conservation Division of the New York Public Library. Her address is now Conservation Div., Rm. 65, New York Public Library, 42nd St. & Fifth Ave., New York, NY 10016.
Dom C. Neal, who has served as Executive Director of the Society of American Archivists since 1986, has been appointed External Officer of the National Archives, effective October 7. He will be working with Congress and with national and international professional communities.
Linda V. Ellsworth has been appointed Executive Director of the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts (CCAHA) in Philadelphia. This was announced July 16; at that time, she was the Director of the Mid-Atlantic Regional Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
