• Nancy Nitzberg has accepted the position of Book Conservator at the Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts, Philadelphia (215/545-0613).

• Nancy Schrock will be on sabbatical in Cambridge, England, from January to June, 1991. She may be reached at 39 Westlands, Comberton, Cambs. CB3 7EH, England.

• Kimberly B. Kelley joined the Smithsonian staff on July 30 as the Chief Librarian for the Museum Support Center serving the needs of the Conservation Analytical Lab and three other sections of the Smithsonian Institution.

• Barbara J. Smith, Director of the Smithsonian Institution Libraries, lectured at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania, April 4, by invitation. Her lecture was entitled "How Shall We Save the Books?"

• John Bertonaschi recently began work in the Conservation Office of the Library of Congress.

• Roger Powell died Tuesday evening, October 16, at the age of 94. A festschrift, edited by Guy Petherbridge, has been in preparation for him for several years.

• Lisa E. Hall is pleased to announce the opening of a private practice in paper conservation in southeast Florida. Her address is PO Box 653, Boca Raton, FL 33429 (407/3937053).

• Joan ten Hoor has been appointed Preservation Librarian of the Newberry Library (60 W. Walton St., Chicago, IL 60610, 312/934-9090) effective August 1. She received the certificate in preservation administration from Columbia University in May 1989, and served as Mellon Preservation Intern at Yale from June 1989 to June 1990.

• Jonathan S. Arney began work this month as Research Scientist with the University of Dayton Research Institute, where he expects to be engaged in conservation research. As Adjunct Professor at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, he will be working with Bill Scott in preparing a short course in paper technology for the conservation community.

• Robert Nikirk, Librarian of the Grolier Club for the last two decades and a specialist in antiquarian books, died on Sept. 5 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Manhattan.

• Nicholas Pickwoad and Margaret Hey are visiting associate professors an the Columbia University preservation courses this year, teaching (respectively) conservation and conservation chemistry.

• Peter Mustardo became the regional preservation coordinator for the National Archives at the end of September. He is based in the Document Conservation Branch.
