Janet Bridgland, GCI Pioneer, Departs for Minnesota

Janet Bridgland, Director of the Documentation Program of the Getty Conservation Institute, has left the GCI to relocate in Minnesota (see "People!' column). Janet had been with the Getty since 1983, initially as Program Officer for the Trust and subsequently for the Institute. At the Trust, she was instrumental in coordinating the planning and development of the Conservation Institute from its inception. As Program Officer to the Institute's Director, Janet was responsible for developing GCI policy and programs in the areas of Special Projects and Publications. In her role as Documentation Program Director since 1986, Janet successfully managed the Program's development and implementation, overseeing the Conservation Information Network, Art and Archaeology Technical Abstracts (AATA), and the GCI Library. In addition, she has long been active in the ICOM Committee for Conservation (ICOM CC) and served as its Chairman from 1987 to 1990. In this capacity she oversaw the preparation of the Committee's 9th Triennial Meeting in Dresden last year, as well as the funding and production of the Dresden Preprints.

While Janet will be greatly missed, the GCI considers itself fortunate to have Kathleen McDonnell, Manager of the Conservation Information Network, bringing her valuable experience and skills to the temporary position of Acting Program Director.
