Last year we came out ahead: income exceeded expenses by a comfortable margin. In 1993 it will be the other way around: the expenses of getting set up in the new office with new staff and new software, of upgrading and double-checking our circulation records, of switching to double-entry bookkeeping, and of handling an increasing number of requests for information, will outrun income. The payoff should come in 1994 and beyond.
"Information gathering" includes the telephone, books, and conferences. When we get back on Email (soon), that cost will be part of this category too.
