Caroline Gilderson-Duwe became the Head of the Preservation Department at the Golda Meir Library, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, around October 1.
John Cotton Wright retired in August as Territorial Archivist of American Samoa. He had served in that position since 1987.
Robert J. Espinosa has been appointed head of the Preservation Department at the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University.
Pamela Barrios has been appointed head of the Conservation Laboratory for Special Collections at the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University.
Eleanor McMillan retired from the Smithsonian Institution's Conservation Analytical Lab on July 16. She plans to "paint, travel, and generally have a good time," according to the September AIC News.
Richard F. Young, director of the Office of Conservation and Preservation at the U.S. Senate, retired October 1. He will be resettling in the New England area, and plans to remain active in the library preservation field. He started his career in book and document conservation at the Harcourt Bindery and served in various conservation positions at the Library of Congress from the early 1960s until 1972, when he moved to the Senate.
Cathleen A. Baker recently moved to Chillicothe, Ohio, where she will spend most of her time on the project to research and write the biography of Dard Hunter. She has resigned her position as Associate Professor of Paper Conservation in the Art Conservation Department at SUNY Buffalo, after 15 years of teaching. To maintain her conservation links, she has accepted a part-time position as Adjunct Senior Paper Conservator at the Intermuseum Conservation Association in Oberlin, Ohio. Jana Lee Pullman has been selected to fill the new four-year apprenticeship at the University of Iowa Center for the Book, where she will learn conservation papermaking and related research under Timothy Barrett. She has been working at the University of Utah as Senior Library Specialist in binding and repair of books.
Roberta Cade, formerly Head of the Preservation Reformatting Department at Columbia University, was recently named Head, Statewide Conservation/Preservation Program, New York State Library, Albany.
Hannah Dustin French, author of "Early American Bookbinding by Hand, 1636-1820" in Bookbinding in America (Bowker, 1941, 1967), died May 2, 1993, in Rye, New Hampshire. She was born in 1907, and worked for most of her life at the Wellesley College Library, as Research Librarian in Charge of Special Collections.
