Patricia Battin, president of the Commission on Preservation and Access, has announced that she will resign her post effective July 1, 1994. Nominations for her successor are now being accepted. William L. Joyce, Princeton University, was awaiting confirmation to the Assassinations Review Board in fall 1993, according to the RBMS Newsletter. This board was set up by Congress to review records, still being withheld by government agencies, on the killing of President John Kennedy. Joyce's nomination to the five-member board was announced by the Clinton Administration on September 5.

Paul Koda is the special collections librarian at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.

Eric C. Shoaf recently became head of the Preservation Department at Brown University Library, in Providence, Rhode Island.

Brenda Banks was made a Fellow of the Society of American Archivists at the SAA annual meeting in New Orleans. She served as a White House advisor to the Clinton administration on issues relating to the National Archives and Records Administration and as a team leader to the Clinton-Gore transition team performance audit of NARA. She also played a strong role in developing the SAA's national preservation program.

Christine Ward was made a Fellow of the Society of American Archivists at the SAA annual meeting in New Orleans. She and Brenda Banks were among eight members receiving that honor. She has chaired the SAA Preservation Section, co-chaired the Task Force on Preservation, and has been an effective promoter of preservation in New York State from her position in the New York State Archives as director of the Bureau of Archival Services.

Sally Shelton, author of two Christmas poems featuring Santa's encounters with a modern conservation lab, has accepted a position at the San Diego Natural History Museum as collections conservation specialist, effective January 1994. She can be reached at 619/232-3821; fax 232-0248.

Don Sebera retired from the Library of Congress October 29. He is consulting and catching up on some writing he has been wanting to do. His telephone number is 609/451-6655 and his fax is 451-0339. He plans to get on Email in the near future.

Poul Christiansen, who introduced the international conservation journal Restaurator in 1969 and edited it for many years, provided professionals on both sides of the Iron Curtain with a communication link for many years. He stepped down as editor of Restaurator n the mid-1980s. In a note this past Christmas he wrote that he had retired from his job at Danmarks Natur- og Laegevidenskabelige Bibliotek in Copenhagen on November 1, but continued to work a lot from his room at the library, and is editing a series in the history of science, building up a special collection, editing other books, and so on.

Karen L. Jefferson joined the NEH Division of Preservation and Access July 1 as a Program Officer. It is a one-year appointment, under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Personnel Act, which allows an exchange of personnel, and is a way of borrowing expertise. She is currently the Curator of Manuscripts at the Moorland-Spingarn Research Center of Howard University.

Marilyn Kemp Weidner wrote in November that she and Roswell Weidner had spent three weeks in Japan doing lectures on art on paper and demonstrations of her moisture chamber/suction table system. They also did some sightseeing and visited labs and museums. The trip was funded by a grant from the Japan Foundation, the annual meeting of Japanese mounters, and the Koyano Art Conservation Lab of Tokyo.

Jeanne Drewes, formerly a Mellon Intern at the University of Michigan, has accepted a position as Preservation Administrator at the Pittsburgh Regional Library Center (PRLC).
