- Charles Gruchy, former Director General of the CCI, took on
a new job in July as Director General of the Heritage Branch in
the Cultural Development and Heritage Sector of the Department
of Canadian Heritage. Bill Peters, Director General of the Heritage
Branch since 1992, in turn took Mr. Gruchy's place as Director
General at the Canadian Conservation Institute.
- Graeme Scott, of the Australian Museum, has been studying
mold growth by simulating tropical conditions and the rates at
which organic materials reach equilibrium with their environment.
- Harry Campbell (ICI) and Abbey Shaw (Archivart) have joined
NISO standards committee SS, which is defining the types of information
to be included in ads for products used in the conservation and
repair of library materials.

located in western Massachusetts that specializes in helping vendors
understand and market to the preservation and conservation field.
Presently the company is managing the Gaylord Bros. preservation

- Ross Harvey, author of Preservation in Libraries: A
Reader and Preservation in Libraries: Principles, Strategies and
Practices for Librarians (Bowker/Saur, 1993) is now a senior
lecturer at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. His

- Steven D. Smith began work September 15 as an AMIGOS Preservation
Service Field Services Officer. He will develop and teach preservation
training courses, perform site surveys and preservation management
consultations, provide basic preservation information, and work
with regional and national preservation organizations. He has
a master's degree from the University of Texas library school,
having specialized in Preservation Administration.
- Peter Waters retired in November from the Library of Congress
after 25 years as the Conservation Officer there.
- Kathy Orlenko, a graduate of the Columbia University conservation
program, began working on October 16, 1995, as Conservator for
the West Coast region in the NARA Regional Preservation Program.

- Sharla Richards and Christine Wiseman both started work as
preservation field service officers at SOLINET October 23. They
will provide workshops, consulting and information referral services
to SOLINET members (in southeastern U.S.), including maintenance
and repair of materials, disaster preparedness and disaster recovery.
Both are recent graduates of the University of Texas with MLIS

- Trudy Huskamp Peterson, who served for over two years as acting
Archivist of the United States, has been named Executive Director of
the Open Society Archives (founded in 1995 by George Soros) in
