The New York Public Library seeks a professional to perform treatment programs of the Goldsmith Conservation Laboratory. Performs conservation treatment for a wide range of paper-based artifactual formats, including manuscripts, bound artifacts, prints, drawings, photographs, posters, and other artifactual materials from all divisional collections. Assists in general administrative and lab support duties of the conservation lab.

Master's degree from an accredited professional conservator training program and professional experience in conservation of paper-based materials, or equivalent formal training and experience. Thorough working knowledge of conservation theory and techniques, with satisfactory completion of courses in organic, paper, and conservation chemistry. Good computer skills.

Supervisory Conservator, Chief, Conservation Division
Library of Congress

The Library of Congress seeks a Supervisory Conservator for the Chief of the Conservator Division of Library services. Working as a member of the preservation team, the Chief will plan and direct the activities of the Conservation Division and establish policies and procedures governing the conservation of rare books, manuscripts, maps, atlases, prints and photographs, posters, drawings, other works of art on paper, and non-book media such as moving image and audio collections. The Chief will apply an in-depth knowledge of the full range of library conservation techniques to complex library decisions affecting the long-term conservation of those materials of greatest intrinsic value or historical significance. The Chief will also develop and maintain comprehensive emergency preparedness and disaster recovery plans for all Library collection materials and provide for the professional development and advanced conservation training of Library of Congress conservation staff and conservation inters.

Preservation Librarian
University of Albany

Responsibilities: Plans, organizes and implements the University Libraries Preservation Program. Manages state-funded budget and grants; supervises conservator, clerk and student assistants. Participates in planning and implementing consortial projects. Advises library administration on planning and policies for collection preservation. Prepares grant proposals. Research, publication and service to the Libraries and University are expected to satisfy criteria for continuing appointment and promotion.

Qualifications:

Required - Graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited institution or foreign equivalent. Advanced training in library conservation/preservation and experience with supervision and budget management.

Preferred - Familiarity with commercial binding, microform production, digital imaging and other new technologies.

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. Minimum of $34,917.
