A crystalline compound (HOC 6 H
4 CONHC 6 H 5 ),
used as a fungicide. It is applied either as an
aqueous (weak alkaline) solution, or as a
non-aqueous solution, in a concentration of 0.1%
by weight of the fabric or paper. Since it does
not have a great affinity for cellulose fibers, it
can be washed out fairly easily if necessary, and,
being both colorless and odorless, it is not
likely to alter the appearance of the material
treated. As it is relatively non-volatile, it
should make the material treated immune to attack
for long periods of time at normal atmospheric
temperatures. It does not contain chlorine. (198 )
