thong binder
A binding consisting of two specially constructed
wooden hoards joined together by woven cotton or
nylon thongs. One end of each thong is fastened to
a clamping bar which is hinged to the back edge of
the upper board, while the other end is fastened
to a movable bar enclosed in the lower board. A
key allows the thongs to be slackened between the
clamping bars, enabling the punched leaves to be
added or removed from the binder. The clamping
bar, together with the oval T-shaped punching,
secures the leaves firmly. A relatively extensive
binding margin is required for this type of
binder, which is equally as strong and usually
lighter in weight than the POST BINDER , and is
reasonably durable. (276 )
