The process of placing a narrow line of adhesive on the sides of a sewn pamphlet near the spine, for the purpose of securing the cover of the publication along the sides instead of simply at the spine, which may have insufficient surface area to hold the cover securely. However, it is usually necessary to score the covers at the edge of the line of adhesive, otherwise there is the risk that the cover paper will break at the adhesive line. 2.
