THE DE-ELECTRIFICATION AND RE-ELECTRIFICATION OF HISTORIC LIGHTING FIXTURES AT WINTERTHUR MUSEUM

BEVERLY N. PERKINS

ABSTRACT—New electrical systems were installed in 175 period rooms of Winterthur Museum. This project provided an opportunity for the Conservation Department to de-electrify and conserve the collection of more than 1,000 historic lighting fixtures. Selected objects were re-electrified in an attempt to minimize the danger to the object and maximize the aesthetic quality of simulated candleand gaslight.
