ARCHIVIST, NORTHEAST ARCHIVES OF FOLKLORE AND ORAL HISTORY.
Regular full-time fiscal year appointment.  The Maine Folklife Center
seeks a dynamic team player
experienced in folklore and oral history archives to care for its
collection of magnetic sound
recordings, photographs, and associated documents.  The collection
consists of 2200 reel-to-reel
tape recordings, 1400 cassettes, 8,000 photographs and slides, 400 LP
recordings of folksongs
and 150 videotapes.  Paper collections include 7 file cabinets filled
with transcripts of the tape
recordings and additional related manuscripts, 30 linear feet of serial
publications and 1400 books.
The archives owns a variety of analog and digital recording and dubbing
equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Collection care, preservation, management, and
organization; preparation
of finding aids in both paper and digital formats; maintenance of Maine
Folklife Center web site;
assisting collection users; supervision of student assistants; care of
sound recording equipment;
assisting with collections development and general operations of the
Maine Folklife Center, as
required.  Reports to Associate Director.
REQUIRED: MA or ALA accredited MLS, with substantial training and
experience in sound
archives management; excellent oral and written communication skills;
demonstrated successful
supervisory experience; and significant experience with database,
graphic, and word-processing
applications, and familiarity with online bibliographic utilities.
PREFERRED: Graduate degree in folklore, American history, English,
anthropology,
ethnomusicology or related subject area.
SALARY: 30-33,000
