Position Announcement:Assistant Archivist, NYC
Position Available: The Woody Guthrie Foundation and Archives seeks a
professionally trained archivist for the position of Assistant Archivist.
Working with the Archivist, the Assistant Archivist handles daily management
of the archival collection (cataloguing, processing and rehousing materials,
maintaining database, completing billing and budget paperwork, and ordering
supplies), and responds to queries for material. He/she assists with research
projects, development of exhibits and historical presentations, as well as
overall policy development. He/she also contributes content to the company
website through research, writing and scanning of materials. For publication
requests, he/she pulls material for various projects, arranges and tracks
orders with outside vendors, organizes files and processes new accessions.
Candidate should have a minimum of 2-3 years archival, library or related
experience, strong organizational and interpersonal skills, the ability to
work with little or no supervision on many projects at once, and an interest
in the life and work of Woody Guthrie. Candidate should also have knowledge
of the MacIntosh platform; and software programs: Foxpro, Helix Rade, Word,
Excel, Photo Shop, FTP, and scanning. An M.L.S. or archival certification is
preferred. Ideally, the candidate has a B.A. in history, music, or related
subject. 24 hours per week, $16/hour, no benefits.
