Equalization is a minor issue, easily handled in the transfer.
Right, but it's better to use a machine with switchable EQ than something
outboard (a clarification for those lurking on the list, I'm sure Mike
knows this).
There MIGHT be some useful information on my tips page on my Tape
Restoration Web site
http://www.richardhess.com/tape/
I have information about formats, speeds, a tape time table.
Yes, the speeds seem pretty well standardized at the 30-15-7.5-3.75...
series and the 76-38-19-9.5... series is a cross conversion.
By the way, don't get hung up on speed--I'm doing some ethnic dance tapes
that have speeds all over the map. You can look for hum and/or tunings to
set the speed. Having a variable speed playback machine is quite useful.
My equipment list (fairly current, tho I have a few more APR-5003Vs) is on
the Web page as well.
Cheers,
Richard
