RE: arsclist Richard Burns
Dear All,
My apologies for (a) being late in replying to this posting, and (b)
apparrently harming the memory of Richard Burns, whose creativity I much
admire and respect.
To answer Stephen Sutton's question: Yes, there is still a place for an
analogue realtime noise suppressor - in Archives, where there may be a
requirement never to interpolate or synthesise any part of the analogue
sound waveform. To that end, a British engineer has made a somewhat improved
version using faster-switching transistors, and also adding equalisation for
all the known disc equalisation turnovers. As I do not think this is an
appropriate place to advertise, I will send details to anyone who contacts
me offline at <peter.copeland@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>.

Though I did not know Richard Burns, I am sorry to hear the news. This
prompts me to ask> In this day of digital technology is there still a place
for an analog realtime noise suppressor such as the Packburn? Is there
anyone in England with a good quality used one they want to dispose of??
