Tube based equipment tends to need less, I believe.

You only need a transformer in a power amp, not in line level equipment,
which is what people here are mainly concerned with.
Personally, I was glad to leave tubes behind, because they seemed to
need replacing rather frequently and the sockets were unreliable.
However, there is a strong preference for tubes in many audio circles.
