ATTENTION! New Host/New Address for ARSCLIST
Welcome to the ARSCLIST Electronic Discussion List as hosted by the
Library of Congress. Please save this message for future reference. If
you do not wish to be on this list, or wish to leave the list in the
future, you will find the necessary instructions below.
ARSCLIST will continue to function much the same as it has at the
University of Rochester, with a few added benefits including the DIGEST
capability (see below.) ARSCLIST was established to facilitate
discussion of the many issues surrounding sound recording collecting and
archiving.
A listserv is an automatic mailing list service whereby an email
received from an individual member is automatically forwarded to
everyone on the list. All ARSCLIST members' email addresses from the
Rochester ARSCLIST have been added to this list by Mary R. Bucknum,
current ARSC secretary and administrator for the list. Her email
address is: mabu@xxxxxxx .
USING THE LIST:
Send all new correspondence to ARSCLIST@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx . This is
called "sending mail to the list," because you send mail to a single
address and the listserv copies the message to all the people
subscribed. This address is also called the "list address." You should
send only correspondence to this address, not commands. Please do not
send correspondence to the old list address as of today (1/13/03)
COMMANDS: (Not necessary for reading messages.)
All commands (sign-off, etc.) must be sent to the "LISTSERV address,"
which is LISTSERV@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx You may leave the list at any time
by sending a "SIGNOFF ARSCLIST" command to LISTSERV@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
You can also tell the listserv how you want it to confirm the receipt of
messages you send to the list. If you do not trust the system, send a
"SET ARSCLIST REPRO" command and listserv will send you a copy of your
own messages, so that you can see that the message was distributed and
did not get damaged on the way. If you send a "SET ARSCLIST ACK
NOREPRO" command, the listserv will mail you a short acknowledgment
instead, which will look different in your mailbox directory. Finally,
you can turn off acknowledgments completely with "SET ARSCLIST NOACK
NOREPRO". Complete information on listserv commands can be found in the
listserv reference card, which you can request by sending an "INFO
REFCARD" command to LISTSERV@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
ARCHIVE and DIGEST:
Contributions sent to this list are automatically archived. You can
request a list of the available archive files by sending an "INDEX
ARSCLIST" command to LISTSERV@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx You can then order
these files with a "GET ARSCLIST LOGxxxx" command (where xxxx stands
for a file number you select,) or by using listserv's database search
facilities. Send an "INFO DATABASE" command for more information on the
latter. The list is also available in digest form. If you wish to
receive the digested version of the postings, just issue a SET ARSCLIST
DIGEST command.
