Yes and no.  One track will be louder than the other, and there will be
proportionally more tape hiss than if played back on a propersly set up 2
track.  It shouldn't damage the tape, however, if you are just auditioning.

Can anyone tell me if a 1/4" 2 track reel-to-reel can play on a 4 track
reel-to-reel tape deck? Will the tracks be able to line up?
