| Greetings! I tried to send this message a few days ago but I don't think it got
through, so this is a re-send. Apologies for any duplication. I recently saw a partial checklist of 78rpm discs
issued in Canada on the Aurora label (http://settlet.fateback.com/AuroraVic.htm)
and saw an item of particular interest to me. It appears that Aurora basically
reissued Victor material, is that correct? I would very much like to obtain a scan of the the
label for Aurora 225 which contains two fiddle tunes played by J. W. Day ("Grand
Hornpipe" and "Black Eyed Susie"). If anyone on the list has such a disc, I
would be more than happy to pay for a good scan. I have been working on a book
about this artist and was previously aware only of the five U.S. Victor discs he
made (1928). It would be great to see the label for the Canadian Aurora release
if anyone can help me out. Thanks!! Steve Green Western Folklife Center P.S. I'm not sure if any of Day's other records
were issued in Canada or elsewhere (Australia?). Day was better known in the
U.S. as "Jilson Setters" and that name appears on some of the Victor labels, so
might show up elsewhere as well. |
