He may not have, but Albert Von Tilzer, his co-writer on the song, did! It was in 1942 at the 25th anniversary celebration of the birth of ASCAP. A concert was held on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay and featured many of the giants of the first half of 20th century Tin Pan Alley singing and performing their own songs. Those present included Von Tilzer, George M. Cohan, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Jean Schwartz, Mack Gordon, Peter DeRose, Hoagy Carmichael, Jimmy McHugh, Harry Warren, Johnny Mercer, Joseph Howard, James Monaco, Arthur Freed, Walter Donaldson, Shelton Brooks, Harold Arlen, Billy Hill, Ernie Burnett, L. Wolfe Gilbert, Burt Kalmar, Harry Ruby, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Ann Ronell, Harry Armstrong, Sigmund Romberg, and W.C. Handy. The entire concert was recorded and is on 4 CDs issued on the Music & Arts label. The set is called "Carousel of American Music." It's probably the most prestigious gathering of songwriters ever to assemble in one place.
