What do you need all this EQ for?

I use Algorithmix Sound Laundry (www.algorithmix.com) that may be available as
direct-x plug-ins for popular audio software (contact them). Otherwise, it
works stand-alone on WAV files.

SL is a wonderful product.

Another full-featured stand-alone product is Diamond Cut 5 (DC5).

Both of these packages offer more than just equalizers, and many of the tools
are better than equalizers at solving specific problems. Neither is terribly
expensive.

I used these tools (both) to restore the Princess Diana tapes that NBC aired a
month or so ago.

I would avoid a pricey outboard EQ with pots that can get noisy, and if you buy
an external digital box, why not get an internal one.

But, I still need to ask, why the focus on EQ? I can see some sharp cutoff
filters (you can get 24dB per octave in Algorithmix). But I use noise reduction
and notch filters as much or more than EQ, and while I use the Algorithmix EQ a
lot, the Samplitude (DAW software) EQ is not bad.
