Re: [ARSCLIST] Ampex & Sticky Shed Syndrome
For those interested in this topic - you really need to carefully read this
entire patent. It is very interesting! Patent #5,236,790 There is allot in
this for discussion. I am not particularly concerned because I cannot
envision wanting to actually use this technique but some of the statements
and conclusions are - well let's say - very interesting. Anyone know the
Patent holder - does he work in this field? I have not had the pleasure.

The idea of this one is that in order to solve the problem you remove the
backcoating - and even more interesting the patent claims that the
backcoating is the cause in the first place of sticky shed syndrome. My
personal experience is that this isn't the case - but read if for yourself.

When did Ampex get their patent? Patents in the US are for 20 years, I
believe, so even if they were inclined to enforce it, they can't have
many years left.

Bertram
(Ampex) and Edward F. Cuddihy (JPL) wasn't referenced in the Ampex
Patent.
It is available online at
