What's really needed is some copy-editing and expertise or just basic QC for
the CDDB and freedb databases. Almost any CD catalog/inventory program today
uses one or both and my experience is that just about every single entry
needs to be tweaked if one is to end up with consistent naming, dating and
also such things as basic spelling in song titles. I guess one shouldn't
complain about free and fixing one or two fields beats entering 20 fields
anyday, but some of the errors in these databases are pretty horrible. My
main pet peeve is inconsistent naming of artists album to album. How the
heck can you keep track of a large CD collection if, for instance, Count
Basie is listed under 20 different iterations (Count Basie, the Count Basie
Kansas City 5, Count Basie Big Band, etc). I'm now in the middle of feeding
my blues CD's into CATraxx and the problems seem omnipresent in that genre
too.
