Re: [ARSCLIST] 78rpm cartridges and postprocessing

If you have a record with very uneven wear (not uncommon), the stereo cartridge is a real plus. With a record that has fairly even wear in both channels, the TRUE mono cartridge can be a godsend. They will reduce vertical noise by 27dB or so. Check out this page (and I recommend the DL-102 very highly, if you have a massive enough tonearm). http://www3.sympatico.ca/murraya/DenonMonoPage.htm

Subject: [ARSCLIST] 78rpm cartridges and postprocessing

What cartridges would you recommend for 78 transcriptions?

Shure M78S
Stanton 681 + D6827 stylus
Ortofon OM78, Concorde 78
Grado 78C, 78E
EMT TND65, OFD65 (mono)

Most modern cartridges have stereo output. The EMT MC cartridges are mono.
Which is better for postprocessing?
Pros/cons for stereo vs. mono cartridge?

Jos
