i have found that 160kbps, by either the LAME or fraunhofer encoder,
has excellent quality for mono signals. (for stereo i use 320, also
done by either encoder).
it seems that if you want to satisfy both stream and download, you
might need to put 2 links (although this could be the proverbial
straw). one for dialup-compatible 32kbps, the other for 128 or 160.
personally i don't like downloading everything on such material,
would rather listen, then if i want to, do the DL. and i've found
workarounds for sites which block direct access to the files by using
playback softwares which will record the stream... preferably people
would just put the link to the file and be done with it, which i
presume you'll do.
