I am afraid I am quite confused by your post. The serial number printed in the clear central area of some discs is recorded only there, not in a form readable by the drive. You assert that there is "an alternate way of reading the serial number", but I am not aware of such.


There is another code written to the disc by the operating system when the disc is burned, but that is not correlated with the printed serial number. It would not be useful to make such a correlation since a duplicator will apply the same OS-generated code when burning a disc with a different printed code.

Perhaps I misunderstand what you are asking; if so, please forgive my confusion.
