Re: [ARSCLIST] Reproducing Pianos

Sorry for the rant, it's just how strongly I feel about reproducing pianos. And how they each , in their own level of technological developement, perform so wonderfully.
I admit a concert pianist has nothing to fear in competition with these systems, but they were and are truly a wonder of the age!!

My home wouldn't be the same with my 1917 Mason And Hamlin Red Welte or 1918 Knabe Stoddard Ampico. They're both uprights.
I'd part with any or all of my vintage phonographs before parting with the pianos.

I hope you will enjoy the Pierian Cd's and will purchase the Ampico CD 's when Karl gets them out - You have a real treat in store !!

Sincerely!

ANY properly restored grand or upright piano with a properly restored Welte, Duo Art or Ampico A or B reproducing system will beat the pants off ANY electronic system that doesn't use a real piano.

Hi Karl:

This is fascinating. Do you play the rolls back on a vintage player piano or use a modern
digital-translation system?

Also, who else did piano rolls? Didn't someone release an album of Gershwin playing his own pieces
from a set of rolls or was that someone else? I remember there being a lot of mainstream media about
something involving "lost" rolls found and recorded for CD a few years ago.
