True story -

Gould was scheduled for a concert in Cleveland with Szell and Gould's
piano stool was damaged in transit. At the first rehearsal Gould was
incessantly adjusting his broken stool up and down to get it just right
while Szell and the orch waited. Szell grew increasingly impatient and
finally said: "Mr Gould, maybe if we shaved a 16th of an inch off your
ass we could begin?" (or words to that effect).
