We got a Lanier vw-260 microcassette transcriber. It has a headphone 
out which I run into our patch bay. I talked to the guy at JBR but I 
quickly found out that we couldn't justify the price tag. The lanier 
sounds ok. We couldn't find anything below the JBR machine that might 
have had at least rca outs.
We got the Lanier here: http://martelelectronics.com/, but it looks 
like they don't have that particular model anymore.

I think Richard Hess just puts the tape into a regular cassette shell 
and transfers it that way.
