Re: [ARSCLIST] Archiving at double speed

Here's an ethical / quality question, if one wanted to speed up the archiving of a batch of standard cassette tapes by playing them back at double speed (3 3/4 ips), recording into a workstation, then resampling the saved files so they are at normal speed, what would be the consequences / loss of quality?
Thanks.
Kevin
The equalization would be wrong and there would be some loss of highs.
Needless to say, if any two-sided processing was used in recording
(e.g., Dolby B, dbX), it would be impractical to recover the original sound.
There would not be great saving in the process since resampling is slow
if done well. Still, it's worth running your own test if you have the
hardware and the patience. If you are only seeking a listenable version
of speech, the savings may be great enough to justify the losses.
