Flip response: Cause a gal can always find a guy who'll play with her,
but a guy has to be his own band? Even today in all kinds of music the
male singer without an instrument in his hands is far more unusual than
a woman who just sings, in all kinds of music.
I'd be surprised if there was a blues-specific reason. For me, a woman
singing is all that is needed. Guys need some distraction going on...
