If anything, I've found that the thinner tapes are more durable than 1 or 1.5 
mil. They are more flexible so hardening of the base has less effect and they 
are less likely to use the "high performance" oxide coatings that are 
susceptible to SSS.

Of course they are more likely to be damaged by poor handling and incorrect 
tensions and are likely to cause uneven head wear, especially on machines that 
use pressure pads.
