Yes, Richard pointed that out. My bad memory and worse description of 8-track mechanics. What I meant was, when the sensing foil passed and the head moved to the next two tracks, there was a gap in the recording.

The loop tape in an 8-track NEVER switched direction. That would have immediately jammed the loop.
