They don't show the snake oil to lubricate the CD spindle, though.
During the phonograph "boom years" (mid-teens) there waa a phonograph make, Vitaphone, which actually had its needle on the end of a long piece of wood...whose other end connected to the diaphraghm. Supposedly, the sound "mellowed" while traveling through the wood...?!
