I've had a couple reels of Maxell go sticky, but not most. It seems to depend on storage conditions.

Richard Hess knows more about the other kinds.

Ampex 457, pre late 90's, is likely to go sticky. Quantegy claims in strong terms that SSS problem 
is solved. I have not had problems so far with Ampex 456, 406 and 457 batches from 1999 onward, but 
it's early.
