I actually played an entire concert (funded 100% by the composer) of the 
music of Richard Nanes at Town Hall about 20 years back. Frankly, it was 
some of the worst music I have ever played (or heard), but I can't knock 
the man for trying. I realize that taste is what one makes of it and 
that there are others capable of appreciating that which I cannot. 
Getting paid union scale for a concert is not something I ever learned 
to take for granted and Nanes at least knew that a cut-rate presentation 
of his symphonies and concerti wasn't going to help his cause any.

Along the way, I seem to have acquired a couple of Nanes LPs on the 
Delfon label as gifts from one of my sadistically inclined friends (?). 
One contains his symphonies 1 & 2 (both in Bb major) and the other the 
"Rhapsody pathetique" for violin (Eugene Fodor) and orchestra, Symphony 
for strings and Concerto grosso for brass trio and chamber orchestra. 
The jacket blurbs (uncredited) associates lots of names (Menuhin, 
Palestrina, Mozart and Bach) with Nanes and his work based on  his  
position as  Composer-in-residence at Cathedral of the Sacred  Heart 
somewhere in New Jersey, though  the connections remain unclear.
